What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is backed by more than two decades of innovation and is the most advanced clear straightening system. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible, are more comfortable, are more convenient, and do not come with any food restrictions. Invisalign is a sequence of removable clear aligners made of flexible plastic. Invisalign trays are constructed with BPA-free plastics, more specifically SmartTrack material. Each set of aligners is trimmed to your gum line for maximum comfort. Due to their removable feature, Invisalign allows users to remove them when needed, making them convenient at mealtime and during cleanings.

How Does it Work?

Invisalign utilizes 3D rendering and molds of your teeth to create custom trays that are effectively used to guide your teeth to their proper place. Invisalign gradually moves your teeth by exerting gentle pressure. Your orthodontist works closely with lab technicians to outline each tooth and movement, ensuring that each tooth is positioned and moving along precisely. Patients are given a new set of trays each month throughout the process, with each tray fitted appropriately with every visit. The length of treatment is dependent on each case. For some, it can be as little as three months and as long as two years.

Do You Qualify for Invisalign?

Generally, Invisalign treatment is best for gapped teeth, crowded, underbite, or crossbite, so long as the case isn’t overly severe. Although there really is no age restriction, Invisalign is best for older teenagers and adults. The treatment is relatively easy but takes a certain level of responsibility to maximize the treatment thoroughly and efficiently. Success lies with the patient; consistency is key. What is the Process of Invisalign?

Getting Invisalign starts with a visit to your local orthodontist’s office. During your consultation with your orthodontist, your orthodontist will determine right then and there if you qualify for Invisalign. If you are eligible and choose to proceed, your orthodontist will take x-ray photos and make impressions of your teeth. This allows them to create your treatment plan and customize your aligners. After your visit, your mold is then sent away to be used to create your aligners. Once they are made, you will be fitted for them at your dentist’s office. If all goes well, you’ll be given relevant information and further instructions. Expect to follow up with your orthodontist regularly between four to six weeks after each visit. These visits will allow your orthodontist to ensure your treatment plan is coming along as expected.
